[edit] Career and Achievements
The first time the girls stepped on stage they were known as Cleopatra And The Attractions; at that point Cleo was the lead singer and her sisters were backing singers/dancers. They later dropped that name and became known as the band Cleopatra.
[edit] Comin' Atcha
Their debut single as the band Cleopatra in 1998 was "Cleopatra's Theme", a song penned by Cleo when she was only 9 years old. The song reached #3 in the UK charts, the Billboard top 30 and #14 on the R7B charts. Their second single was "Life Ain't Easy", which reached the Top 5. They also released a cover of The Jacksons song I Want You Back which was also a Top 5 hit.
[edit] Thank Abba
Along with Steps, Tina Cousins, Billie Piper and B*Witched, Cleopatra were part of the ensemble that released "Thank Abba For The Music" which gave the girls there 4th top 5 hit in 1999.
[edit] America
They were signed to Madonna's US label Maverick Records in 1999. Madonna introduced the girls to America on the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards where the girls performed Cleopatra's Theme.
In 1999 they performed their own concert onboard the Disney cruise ship, with the concert being televised in countries all over the world. Their U.S. debut single was "Cleopatra's Theme", which reached #26 on the Billboard Chart, and reached #16 on the R&B chart.
[edit] Other Recording Contributions
They were featured on the Bee Gees' tribute album, singing the album title track Gotta Get A Message To You. They were also asked to record a cover of the disco song Right Back Where We Started From for An Extremely Goofy Movie by Disney. The song featured on the end credits and the special features on the DVD release included a video for the song.
[edit] Steppin' Out
Their second album, "Steppin Out", included the hit singles "U Got It", "Come And Get Me" as well as the single "Yes This Party's Going Right" which was released in Japan. Steppin out was released worldwide except the UK due to the band leaving their label. They did a promotional tour of America with Jessica Simpson, Next, Brian McKnight and Joe and appeared on numerous TV shows, including Jay Leno and The Queen Latifah Show. Their song Feels So Good which didn't make the album was used as the opening song for the daytime TV show the Jenny Jones Show.
[edit] TV Series
In 1998 CITV premired Cleopatra's 1 hour Christmas Special for their brand new sitcom. With a host of stars to help launch the show it was a ratings smash. The show was 20 minutes per episode and followed the girls' lives on tour and at home with their family. The girls' mother and younger sister were featured as themselves. The show had two seasons: Season 1 'Comin' Atcha' and Season 2 'In The House'.
[edit] Covergirl
Cleopatra are the first Black British band to have ever featured in their own Covergirl advertisement. They sang and featured in the huge Covergirl campaign across America promoting their 'Triple Lipstick' line. It was filmed on Miami's South Beach in 2000 and saw the girls on stage performing the theme song.
