The coat of arms for Western Australia

The Coat of Arms of the State of Western Australia (WA) was granted by Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, by Royal Warrant dated the 17 March, 1969.

The shield has a base of rippled blue to signify the ocean which surrounds WA on three sides. Above this is a black swan: the bird emblem of WA and which also as appears on the State Badge.

The crest is the Royal Crown between two Kangaroo paw flowers. The Crown is representative of the monarchy in Australia and the Kangaroo paw flower is the floral emblem of WA.

Two Kangaroos are the supporters of the shield`. Kangaroos are commonly used as symbols of Australia. Each Kangaroo holds in their forepaw a boomerang.

The formal description, or blazon, of the Arms is: Per chevron Azure and Argent in chief two Mullets of the last and in base issuant from a Rocky Mount charged with a Book expanded proper edged Or leathered Gules a Norfolk Island Pine proper; And for Crest: On a Wreath Or and Sable The Royal Crown between two Kangaroo Paw (Anigosanthos Manglesii) flowers slipped proper; And for Supporters: on either side a Kangaroo holding in the exterior fore-paw a Boomerang proper.
