Competing species

Competing species are species competing for the same resources to live. They may or may not directly attack each other, but can harm each other by depriving the other species of those very resources. competition between competing species of the same functional type (e.g same plant growth form) are potentially intense. Because of this one species may competitively exclude the other leading to the local extinction of the weaker species.
