Coombeshead College
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Coombeshead College is the largest comprehensive school in Newton Abbot, Devon, United Kingdom and is also one of the most popualar schools of Newton Abbot. It is a media and arts college, and has 1600-plus pupils on its roll. The head teacher is Richard Haigh.
On a minor matter, it gained media attention in 2005 as being the first place of secondary education in the country to include the item of clothing known as the hoodie as part of the school uniform and also a blue sports jacket. Coombeshead college is also one of the only schools in the U.K to have credit card like cards to pay for their school meals which they can top up each month or week instead of bringing in money every day. There is a lot of re-development plans at the school, they have just built a brand new sports hall, library and theatre and are now hoping to knock down old cabin huts and replace them with brand new classrooms.
The School is locally renowned for its music facilities, which includes a full recording studio. In addition to its teaching purposes, the studio has also been used by local bands to record their records including local festival "air fusion" regulars "the crackers", as well as popular bands "strange fixation" and "Civilian".
