Dasht-e-Azadegan

Dasht-e Azadegan is a city in the Khuzestan province in southwestern Iran. Its original name was Bani Tarif, and in 1935 it was changed to Dasht-e Mishan. After the Iranian Revolution in 1979, its name was changed once again, this time to Dasht-e Azadegan. The residents of this area are primarily Arab nomads. Until 1944, it had formed a part of Ahvaz. The area contains important oil reserves, referred to as the "Azadegan oil fields."
The development of the oil fields, which have been handed down to the Japanese corporation Inpex, are currently in dispute due to the complexities of American pressure and the nuclear crisis.
