Dative of purpose

In Latin and Ancient Greek grammar, the dative of purpose (Lat. dativus finalis) is a noun or verbal noun in the dative case to denonte purpose.

  • accipio dono - "I receive this as a gift"
  • puellae ornamento est - "this serves for the girl's decoration"
