Dewlap
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A dewlap is a flap of skin that hangs beneath the chin of an animal. More generally, the term refers to any pendulous mass of skin, such as a fold of loose skin on an elderly person's neck, or the wattle of a bird. There are also dewlaps on dogs such as the English Springer Spaniel and the Basset Hound.
Reptiles, most notably the anole species of lizard, have the ability to extend and retract their dewlaps, which are of a different color from the rest of their body. Males use them to intimidate rivals, and they are larger than the female dewlap, which is primarily used for defense, to make themselves look bigger.[1]de:Wamme
