Digital Monkey
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Digital Monkey is a knitted mascot used to promote the now defunct United Kingdom television package ITV Digital. A series of high profile adverts featured the comedian Johnny Vegas alongside the monkey, which was originally available free to those who had purchased ITV Digital. Featuring a variety of t-shirts, the monkey was in great demand after ITV Digital's bankruptcy, selling for hundreds of pounds on eBay.
However, the monkey (simply monikered "Digital Monkey" or sometimes "Monkeh") was soon made available for general sale and has seen a boost in popularity after an appearance in the second series of award-winning British sitcom The Office. Because the monkey was owned by an agency rather than by ITV Digital itself, it has since been able to appear in a few other shows, with the BBC using it for that year's Comic Relief.
Monkey was produced by The Jim Henson Company via their UK Creature Shop.
