Doctor Nitrus Brio (ドクター ニトラス ブリオ Dokutā Nitorasu Burio?), or N. Brio for short, is a character from the Crash Bandicoot series. His name is a play on the word "embryo".

[edit] Overview
[edit] Crash Bandicoot
Dr. Nitrus Brio is the first person Doctor Neo Cortex swayed to his side. Brio, like Cortex, studied at Madame Amberley's Academy of Evil where the first Evolvo Ray was designed. Prone to random fits of stuttering and giggling, his lack of self-esteem let Cortex take credit for the Evolvo-Ray that Brio perfected. He was the penultimate boss in the original Crash Bandicoot. However, the uncredited creator of the Evolvo-Ray is betrayed by Cortex and resigns from his position before Crash burns down Cortex Castle.
It is mentioned in the epilogue of the first game that N. Brio discovered his true passion for bartending, though this is considered non-canonical by fans.
[edit] Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back
Nitrus Brio reappeared in Crash 2, hiring Ripper Roo, and creating The Komodo Brothers, and Tiny Tiger to assassinate Crash Bandicoot to keep him from gathering the Power Crystals. Once Crash has collected 42 gems, Brio destroys Cortex's space station and disappears even though he asks Crash to activate his ray gun.
[edit] Crash Bash
Oddly, in Crash Bash, Brio works with Cortex once more, although it may be that Brio is simply being forced to work alongside Cortex by Uka Uka.
[edit] Crash Twinsanity
Brio did not return again until Crash Twinsanity when he teamed up with Nefarious Tropy to defeat Cortex and gain the Evil Twin Treasure. He appears alongside Tropy in a boss fight, immediately following Crash's escape from N. Gin's battleship, in which Brio (after being instructed by N. Tropy to "get changed") drinks a potion to transform himself into a large, green frog-like monster. He then appeared (in his human form) alongside N. Tropy and N. Gin again in the Evil Twins' fortress, claiming the treasure for themselves. However, they were thwarted by Spyro, who had been trapped in the Twins' vault.
[edit] Weapons
In most games, Brio used beakers as projectives, as well as potions to transform himself into a Frankenstein-esque monster, as well as a giant mutant frog. In Crash Bash, Brio used a blue ray gun, similar to Cortex's red one.
[edit] Trivia
- Brio is strangely similar to Snively from the Sonic the Hedgehog comic and Saturday morning cartoon. Both of them were former right hand men that betrayed their bosses and wear green.
[edit] Voices
- Brio is voiced by Brendan O'Brien.
- He is voiced by Mitsuru Ogata in the Japanese dubs.
