From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Earl Jellicoe is a title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom. It was bestowed in 1925 on Admiral of the Fleet Sir John Jellicoe after he returned from New Zealand, where he had served for four years as Governor-General.
The other titles held by the Earl are: Viscount Jellicoe, of Scapa in the County of Orkney (created 1917) and Viscount Brocas, of Southampton in the County of Southampton (1925). The viscountcy of Jellicoe was created with special remainder to Jellicoe's daughters and the heirs male of their bodies, while the earldom and viscountcy of Brocas were created with remainder to the heirs male of his body. Furthermore, the second Earl, who has served as First Lord of the Admiralty and Lord Privy Seal, was made a life peer as Baron Jellicoe of Southampton in 1999.
The family seat is Tidcombe Manor, near Pewsey, Wiltshire.
