Ecocanal
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Ecocanal is a low-draft waterway that will connect Lake Nicaragua to the Caribbean Sea, using the San Juan River. This route was used during the California Gold rush to transport passengers from the U.S. East Coast to the West Coast. More than 100,000 people used this pathway in the second half of the 1800´s. The main objective of the project, now, will be to carry containers and bulk cargo from Nicaragua and nighboring countries to the U.S. East Coast. Also small private yachts will be able to come from the Caribbean islands into the huge, 8,000+ squared kilometer Lake Nicaragua.
