Ede, Nigeria

Ede is a town in Osun State, Nigeria. The population of Ede is 304,738 (1987 figure). The people are Yorubas. The Redeemed University is located in Ede. It is also home to a Federal Polytechnic. Several mosques and churches dot the land scape.
Ede provides a great place for tourism. Historically, it is one of the key traditional towns in Yorubaland. Egungun festival is still widely celebrated, like many other traditional festivals. However, more and more people are celebrating Christmas, new year and Ileya (Id-el Kabir) festival. In fact, throughout Nigeria, Id-el Kabir is celebrated most in Ede.
The first Executive Governor of Osun State - Isiaka Adeleke - came from Ede.
