An epilogue, or epilog, is a piece of writing at the end of a work of literature or drama, usually used to bring closure to the work. The writer or the person may deliver a speech, speaking directly to the reader, when bringing the piece to a close. Oftentimes in novels, an epilogue will be an ending to the book. Epilogues will generally serve as an extended ending when the book ends. The epilogue can be about what happened to the characters after the story. There is ending, and there is also closure. An epilogue provides for closure when an ending does not. For example, if there is a story about a great hero who made many accomplishments, then the epilogue could be about what he did when he settled down.
