From the egg hatches a dragon whom he names Saphira. Her arrival sets off a series of events that turn his life, and many other lives, upside down. Eragon decides to keep Saphira a secret. One day he finds his uncle dead and sets out on a journey to avenge him. Accompanied by a wise storyteller named Brom, Eragon and Saphira take up the legacy of a legendary dragon riders, learning the skills of magic, swordfighting and dragon-riding in preparation for his revenge against those responsible for the death of his family. Main article: Eragon (video game)

In a press release made on April 18th, Vivendi Universal Games (VU Games) announced its plans for the upcoming Eragon game, set to release in November on all consoles and PC. The game, however, will not be releasing for Macs. VU had this to say:

"Based on the worldwide literary phenomenon and Fox 2006 tentpole film starring Academy Award winner Jeremy Irons and Academy Award nominee John Malkovich, Eragon immerses the player in a magical world of dragons, destiny and adventure. Gamers will engage in intense battles with an unparalleled combo and magic-based combat system, including stunning finishing moves, multiple grapples and degradable blocks with unique counter attacks. The adventure is heightened with breathless dragon flight-based combat and devastating dragon summon attacks. Fantasy fans can also share the adventure with 2 player co-op featuring team attack bonuses and dragon fight/flight combo gameplay."More Info

[edit] Trivia

  • Paolini, author of the original novel, had expressed his wishes to be featured in a cameo role in the film - specifically, as a warrior who is beheaded in the battle of Farthen Dûr. However, he was unable to due to his European book tour.
  • Edward Speleers was chosen from over 180,000 other applicants for the role of Eragon.
  • This is singer/songwriter Joss Stone's first film role.
  • Ian McKellen was originally offered the role of Brom but he turned it down because of his commitment to X-Men: The Last Stand.
  • Sienna Guillory (Arya) has appeared in two other films with fellow Eragon actors. She appeared in The Time Machine with Jeremy Irons (Brom) and will appear in Resident Evil: Extinction with Chris Egan (Roran).
  • Jeremy Irons has also previously appeared in The Man in the Iron Mask with John Malkovich (Galbatorix).
  • Guy Pearce was a candidate for the role of Durza the Shade.
  • Elijah Wood and Shia LaBeouf were considered for the role of Eragon.
  • Alex Pettyfer was originally chosen for the role of Eragon, however he turned it down for the role of Alex Rider in Stormbreaker because Eragon was being filmed in Hungary, while Stormbreaker was being filmed locally. Alex Pettyfer suffers from aviophobia, the fear of flying, so he preferred the choice of filming locally so that he did not have to fly.
  • The movie magazine Life Story recently had an article featuring the film, but Brom's allegiance was confused. He was quoted as "villainous".
  • Avril Lavigne will sing the theme song for the movie, entitled "Keep Holding On." The song is a power ballad that will be featured on the soundtrack for the movie.
  • Jem also composed a song for the movie, entitled "Once In Every Lifetime". The song has yet to be released, but it will also be featured on the soundtrack for the movie.
  • A new trailer for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film will debut along with this movie.

[edit] Differences between book and film

  • Eragon in the movie is blonde, while he is described as having brown hair in the book.
  • In the movie, Eragon has a scar similar to the letter "e" on his hand, with the end vaguely looking like a dragon's head, while in the book he has a shining palm.
  • In the picture above, Eragon is given Zar'roc. It is clear that Zar'roc's sheath is black. In the book however, Zar'roc's sheath is red. Also, the stone on Zar'roc is blue in the movie but red in the book.
  • In the book, Saphira does not breathe fire until the final fight with Durza. However, she is clearly seen breathing fire all throughout the Battle of Farthen Dûr, and possibly earlier.
  • The Urgals in the movie are portrayed as stocky men with war paint, lacking the frequently mentioned horns in Paolini's books.
  • In the movie Arya does not have pointy ears, black hair or green eyes as stated in the book. Also she is never conscious outside Farthen Dur, though in trailers she is clearly outside.
  • In the book there is something of an 'explosion' in the Spine when the egg appears, but in the trailer it is clear that Eragon shoots the egg with his bow.
  • In the trailers, it is clear that Saphira has feathers (or feather-like scales) on her wings, but in the book they're described as having leathery membranes (no feathers are mentioned).
  • According to an 'adapted script' of the Eragon movie in Scope Teen Magazine (citation needed), Brom does not die, although in some of the trailers, Saphira is seen standing over what appear's to be Brom's diamond tomb.
  • In the theatrical trailer, Durza appears to fly into battle against Eragon and Saphira on a beast of dark mist. No aerial battles take place in the book, and no beast is mentioned - Durza is always on foot.
  • In the trailers Saphira's fire is clearly normal fire, but in the books her fire is "blue tinged with orange, but later it is fully blue" - see article: Saphira
  • In the book Brom is stated having a long white beard as well as hair, but in the movie it is gray.
