The term aether, æther or ether may refer to one of the following.
- The original meaning: Aether (mythology), the personification of the "upper sky", space and heaven, in Greek mythology.
Science, engineering, and philosophy:
- The Aether of classical elements is a concept, historically, used in science (as a medium) and in philosophy (as a substance).
- Any number of Aether theories in alchemy, natural philosophy, and modern physics which suppose a "fifth element".
- Luminiferous aether, in early physics considered to be the medium through which light propagates
- Ether, a class of chemical compounds, or specifically:
- Diethyl ether, which has the common name "ether".
Spirituality:
- Etheric plane, a finer grade of matter, "ether" in addition to the solids, liquids, and gases - which permeates the subatomic structure of the earth and its atmosphere; see also Aether theories.
- Etheric body, a sort of life force body or aura that constitutes the "blueprint" of the physical body, and which sustains the physical body.
