F minor is a minor scale based on F, consisting of the pitches F, G, A-flat, B-flat, C, D-flat, E and F. (harmonic minor scale.) Its key signature consists of four flats.

Its relative key is A-flat major, and its parallel major is F major.

Changes needed for the melodic and harmonic versions of the scale are written in with accidentals as necessary. To create F minor's harmonic scale the seventh note is raised one semitone to E natural.

F minor is a key often associated with passion. Two famous pieces in the key of F minor are Beethoven's Appassionata Sonata, and Haydn's Symphony No. 49 in F minor, La Passione.
