[edit] Characters
The playable characters include Peter, Brian, and Stewie. Each character has their own story going, just like in episodes of the show. Stewie's story involves fighting his evil half-brother Bertram for global dominance, Brian's involves him escaping from prison after allegedly impregnating Seabreeze, and tries to find which human (Glenn Quagmire) fathered her. And Peter is trying to kill Mr. Belvedere (The Giant Chicken) because a satellite dish dropped on his head.
There are 22 Levels. (25 counting all sections in the "Cheesee Charlie's" level) Stewie has 8 levels, Peter has 8 levels, and Brian has 6 levels. All three stories are together in one game, and you do not get to choose which character you play as. There are mini-games in the same style as the flashbacks/examples that are common on the show, but last less than 10 seconds. Some of the game's levels include the hospital, the Griffin house, the police department and its warehouse, the harbor, the casino, Peter's brain and anatomy, the park, and the dog track. Brian's disguises include a pimp, a lamp, a banana (Peanut Butter Jelly Time) and a cheerleader. Peter's alter egos are Rufus Griffin, Hooker Peter, and A.N.N.A.(Automaton Nuclear Neo-Human Android), which has different moves.
[edit] Notes
- Just like on the show, the Fourth Wall is constantly broken. Some examples are in the first non-sequitur mini-game, when Stewie explains its similarity to the shows structure. There are also mentions of the game's budget, and FOX owning the rights to Mr. Belvedere.
- The game was thought to earn a T rating, because the show was rated "TV-14". It was rated M for its disturbing humor, dialogue and partial nudity.
- Brooks from The Shawshank Redemption unofficially appears in Brian's first level. He is seen hanging but he is not dead if Brian is caught. Upon entering the prison, Brian remarks "Looks like Brooks was here".
- The Final Boss in the game is The Chicken, from the episodes "Da Boom", and "Blind Ambition". Just like in the show, Peter fights the Chicken in a lengthy cross-city battle. The arenas are a prison yard, airstrip, strip club, cargo plane, a falling raft, and a building scheduled for demolition. The gameplay of the fight seems similar to the video game "Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith (video game)" when during a boss fight, if the enemy's health was reduced to a certain percent, the fight moved on to a different arena.
- All 3 characters' style of gameplay are loosely based on other video games.
- Stewie: Platform games and shoot 'em ups, like Galaga, Space Invaders and Centipede.
- Brian: Stealth-action games, like Metal Gear Solid.
- Peter: Konami beat 'em ups.
[edit] Reception
The game has received mixed reviews, with the review collation site Metacritic giving the Xbox version a score of 54 out of 100, while the PlayStation 2 and PlayStation Portable versions each received a score of 52 out of 100.<ref> Metacritic: Family Guy (Xbox)</ref><ref>Metacritic: Family Guy (PS2)</ref><ref>Metacritic: Family Guy (PSP)</ref> Basically, while the game got average reviews, the Xbox version seemed a bit better than the PS2 version and the PSP version with weaker graphics.
