This type of necrosis is confined to inflammation of the arteries and often presents with vasculitis (primary inflammation of vessels) and hypertenstion. Fibrin deposition occurs in damaged necrotic vessel walls.

At times, small arteries and arterioles are severely damaged in malignant hypertension. Histologically, the tissue of damaged walls will have a bright pink, fibrin-like quality and gives this process it's name- fibrinoid necrosis.
