Fiumicino is a central-Italian town in the province of Rome, in which the busy Leonardo Da Vinci International Airport is located which serves the national capital Rome.
Fiumicino is a reasonably large fishing town on the Tyrrhenian Sea coast and has long been known for its great seafood restaurants. It also is a weekend getaway for the people of Rome, especially in the summer.
There is a reasonably good beach but the sand is black due to the high iron content in it.
Fiumicino is also a frazione of Ladispoli.
The above town of "Fiumicino" should not be confused with its namesake Fiumicino close to the Rubicon, the small river near Rimini in the Emilia-Romagna region, on the Adriatic coast (presumably its lower course is now also called Fiumicino), which was the border between Italy proper and the province of Gallia Cisalpina, crossed by Roman general Julius Caesar in 49 BC with his troops, an open act of rebellion formalizing his soon-to-be-successful military coup d'état against the Senate.
