Flag of Pakistan

The national flag of Pakistan was designed by Amir-ud-Din Khidwai based on the 1906 flag of the All-India Muslim League. It was adopted on August 11, 1947, three days before independence.

The flag comprises a dark green field (representing Muslims) with a vertical white stripe in the hoist (left side) (representing non-Muslim minorities). In the centre is a white crescent (symbolising progress) and a white five-pointed star (symbolising light, knowledge and wisdom).

A common name for the Pakistani flag is Sabz Hilali Parcham which is Urdu for Green Flag with the Crescent. Or Parcham-e-Sitara aw Hilal meaning The Flag of the Crescent and Star.

For ceremonial occasions. 21' x 14', 18' x 12', 10' x 6-2/3' or 9' x 6 1/4.
For use over buildings. 6' x 4' or 3' x 2'.
For cars 12" x 8".
For tables 6 1/4" x 4 1/4".

The Speakers of the Provincial Assemblies.
Pakistani Ambassadors and High Commissioners.
Commissioners of Divisions, Deputy Commissioners and Political Agents.

Note: The national flag is flown on the residence of the President and the Prime Minister alongside the Presidential standard and the Prime Ministerial standard.
