Fontenay-aux-Roses is a commune in the southwestern suburbs of Paris, France. It is located 8.6 km. (5.3 miles) from the center of Paris.

École Normale Supérieure was a girls school located in the area.

[edit] Name

The commune name originates from a local stream to the hillside from the Châtillon plateau. The final part of the name originates from a plant called the rose which was common between the 12th and the 19th centuries. The attraction of roses that it created a borough named Rosati which existed from 1892 to 1992.
