For Love or Country: The Arturo Sandoval Story is a film about Arturo Sandoval starring Andy Garcia.

The biographical drama was produced for the HBO premium cable network and first aired on October 18, 2000. World-class trumpeter Arturo Sandoval was a shining light in Cuba's exciting jazz scene and championed by jazz legend Dizzy Gillespie as one of the greatest musicians he'd ever heard.

This film shows exemplary on A.S.´s life how the subtle consequences of dictatures can control the development of culture and art. Even if Cuba is one of the culturally widest developed countries in mid-America it has always connected this expression of humanity to politics and ideology producing a non-free expression of cultural development. In this case is this not different from the arguments the Cuban revolution ideologist use to base their behaviour against non-socialistic systems. The state working as mecene of every expression turns to be totalitaristic and opressiv since art needs freedom of expression and things like folclore and music expression cannot be categorized dependent on the origin of the loan of an artist. The film on itself is a masterpiece and an historical document of a long ago lost time.
