"forgiveness" is the 30th single released by Ayumi Hamasaki, and her 17th number one. It came out on August 20, 2003. Though "forgiveness" reached #1 on the Oricon charts, it had disappointing sales by Hamasaki's standards, as it sold 220,000 copies. Her previous single, "&" sold 590,000 copies. However, many fans regard "forgiveness" as one of her more beautiful songs, with aspects of classical music overlying themes of sadness.
