Fran P. Mainella

Image:Fran P Mainella.jpg Fran P. Mainella was the 16th Director of the National Park Service of the United States and first woman hold that position. She was appointed by President George W. Bush and confirmed by the U.S. Senate in 2001. She announced her retirement in July of 2006 pending a successor — Mary A. Bomar, sworn-in on October 17, 2006.[1]
She was born in Connecticut and received a bachelor's degree from the University of Connecticut and a master's degree from Central Connecticut State College. Prior to her position at the National Park Service, she was the Director of Florida's Division of Recreation and Parks.
