Frederick Stafford (19281979) was an Austrian-born actor.

The Czech actor Frederick Stafford (Friedrich Strobel von Stein) was leading man in European spy-movies (his hero OSS 117 in two Bond-like-Adventures, in the first co-starring to Mylène Demongeot, in the second to Marina Vlady) and war-films (The Battle of El Alamein). These movies where mediocre B-Pictures, but he have got the attention of the master of Suspense: Alfred Hitchcock engaged him in 1968 to play the leading role as agent André Devereaux in Topaz, who placed him as star. He married Austrian actress Marianne Hold. Five years after Topaz he starred as detectiv Sandro Mattei beside his daughter from Hitchcock's movie, French actress Claude Jade, in the Italian thriller La ragazza di Via Condotti (Meurtres à Rome/Special Killers) (1973). His last succes is italian thriller Werewolf Man. He died in 1979 in a plane crash. His son is the singer Roderick Stafford (*1964, Flowers from Hitchcock).
