Frespañol (also Frañol or Fragnol), is a portmanteau of the words "Français" and "Español", which mean French and Spanish.

This "language" is a mixture between French and Spanish, almost always in speech, but may be used in writing occasionally. Frespañol is used when a speaker of French and Spanish cannot find adequate vocabulary in one language to communicate, so end up using some of both languages.

Most commonly used in Canada by French speaking people when learning Spanish - sometimes the speaker is unaware that they are speaking in Frespañol, especially if they are not Francophone.

Examples: (Spanish in italics, French in bold)

  • Yo tengo les deux — I have them both.
  • Combien d'años tengo? — How many years old am I?
