Géo Lefèvre
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Géo Lefèvre (1887 – 1961) was a French sports journalist and the originator of the idea for the Tour de France.
He suggested the idea for the Tour at a meeting with Henri Desgrange, editor of the magazine L'Auto as a way to boost circulation. For the first Tour in 1903, Lefèvre was director of the course and judge at both the start and finish. However, he did not follow the race by road, but followed by train, missing the arrival in Lyon.
