From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Gérard Crombac nicknamed Jabby (born March 7, 1929 in Zurich - died November 18 2005), was one of the most famous francophone auto-racing journalist.
In 1954 he bought the personal car of Colin Chapman, a Lotus MK VI, and began racing with this car. This was the beginning of his long friendship with Chapman.
Realising he was not racing driver material, Crombac stood down as a driver in 1958. In 1959 he began managing the interests of Jo Schlesser in association with Jean Lucas while working for Prisunic.
With Jean Lucas, he founded the magazine Sport-Auto in 1962, where he was chief redactor until 1989.
Crombac shared an apartment in Paris with Jim Clark when Clark officially lived in Switzerland for tax reasons.
