Günther Herbig

Günther Herbig (born November 30, 1931 in Ústí nad Labem, current-day Czech Republic) is a German conductor. He studied conducting with Hermann Abendroth, Hermann Scherchen and Herbert von Karajan. After operatic jobs in Erfurt and Potsdam, he held principal conductor positions with the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra and the Berlin Symphony Orchestra. In 1984 he emigrated to the USA. Since then he has worked with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra.
