G3 (tour)

G3 is an almost annual live music show and guitar tour featuring three select guitarists of the generation; hence its name. It was created by guitarists Joe Satriani and Steve Vai in 1996. Since its inception G3 has featured many guitarists including: Yngwie Malmsteen, John Petrucci, Robert Fripp, Eric Johnson, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Uli Jon Roth, Michael Schenker, Adrian Legg and many other special guests, including Steve Lukather, Steve Morse and drummer Mike Portnoy.

Dream Theater is the only authentic band that had its two members on G3 tour: John Petrucci on guitar and Mike Portnoy on drums.
John Petrucci, Eric Johnson and Robert Fripp are the only three guitarists who have played on the G3 tour twice.
In 2006, the G3 tour is heading to Australia in late November and early December. This leg has Steve Vai, Joe Satriani and John Petrucci.
