Snake centipedes or garden centipedes are the pale red or yellowish Geophilus and Haplophilus, which have very narrow and elongated bodies up to 7 cm long, about 40 to 80 pairs of short legs. They are found in soil and leaf litter, often exposed when turning-over garden soil. They are harmless to humans. Garden centipedes have venom claws behind their heads to attack prey.
