George Sperling studies cognitive psychology. He has shown an iconic memory (one of the sensory memory). This experiment took place in 1960.

Currently, he is a distinguished Professor of Cognitive Science at the University of California, Irvine.

[edit] Experiment

His memory experiment showed that during a partial report one can memorize more information than if given a full report. For instance, 9 random numbers come up on a screen and one must memorize all. A partial report would to only have to remember three of the random numbers. Thus by multiplying how many one got on the partial report by three, the partial report should be a greater number than the full report. Thus memorization is easier for a partial report.
