Guipuscoa

Guipuscoa (Basque: Gipuzkoa, Spanish: Guipúzcoa) is a province of northern Spain, in the northeastern part of the autonomous community of the Basque Country. It is bordered by the provinces of Biscay and Álava, the Autonomous Community of Navarre, the French Department of Pyrénées-Atlantiques, and the Bay of Biscay.
Its area of 1,980 sq.km.(1 980 km²) makes it the smallest province in Spain.
Its population is 682,977 (2002), of whom about a quarter live in the capital, Donostia (San Sebastián). Other important towns are Irun, Errenteria, Zarautz, Arrasate, Oñati, Eibar, Tolosa, Beasain, Pasaia.
Guipuscoan is a dialect of the Basque language spoken in the most of the region, as well as neighbouring areas of Navarre.
