Gore, Ethiopia

Gore is a town in the southwestern part of the Oromia region (or kilil) of Ethiopia. Located south of Metu in the Illubabor Zone of the Oromia Region, this town has a latitude and longitude of and an elevation of 2085 meters.
Based on figures from the Central Statistical Agency in 2005, Gore has an estimated total population of 12,708 of whom 6,125 were males and 6,583 were females.<ref>CSA 2005 National Statistics, Table B.4</ref> According to the 1994 national census, this town has 7,114 inhabitants. It is the largest settlement in the woreda of Ale.
Gore is known for its honey. This town has an airport (ICAO code HAGR, IATA GOR) with an unpaved runway.
Gore was founded in the nineteenth century, growing up around Ras Tessema Nadew's palace. It was later Ras Imru Haile Selassie's base from which he resisted the forces of the occupying Italian forces until he surrendered in December 1936. After World War II, Gore served as the capital of Illubabor province until the province was abolished following the adoption of the 1995 constitution.
