Greek dance

Greek dance is a very old and common tradition from the ancient land of Greece. There are many different styles and interpratations from all of the islands and surrounding mainland areas. Each region formed their own moves, motions, and footwork to fit they way of their people. For example, island dances have more of a "watery" flow to them, while Pontic dancing closer to Black Sea, is very sharp.

Greek dances are performed often in Greek communities. A Greek wedding will usually feature a great deal of dancing. They are also performed among international folk dance groups.

The Pan Hellenic dances include the tsamiko, syrtos, and kalamatianos.

There are over 4,000 traditional dances that come from all regions of Greece.
