Hadar is a site on the Awash River in Ethiopia, in the Afar Triangle. It is most famous for being the site of the discovery of Lucy, a three million year old fossilised specimen of Australopithecus afarensis discovered by the archeologist Donald Johansen. He decided to nickname her lucy this while he was listening to the song by The Beatles. Another skeleton of a three year old girl was also later found in an area nearby the site where they found lucy. Her name was selam which means peace in several Ethiopian languages.
