[edit] History

Hapag-Lloyd Express was established in 2002 and began operations in December 2002. Its main competitors are more established no-frills carriers such as Ryanair and Easyjet, as well as other recent low-cost startups such as Germanwings and Basiq Air. It is constantly engaged in a price war with these carriers. In an attempt to win this price war, it expanded rapidly in the first half of 2004, announcing many new routes that it viewed as underserved by other airlines. Examples of such routes include Dublin to Hamburg and Stuttgart, both of which are no longer in operation.

[edit] Services

HLX.com operates the following services (as of July 2006):

[edit] Fleet

The Hapag-Lloyd Express fleet consists of the following aircraft (as of August 2006) <ref>Flight International, 3-9 October 2006</ref>:

  • TUI AG will lease 2 new Boeing 737-700 from ILFC for 6 years. These new aircraft will be delivered to Hapag Lloyd Express or Hapagfly in March and April 2007.

[edit] Livery

HLX.com aircraft are highly recognisable due to their distinctive "New York taxi" style: a checkered black and white line wrapped around a yellow body, aiming to convey the image of quick and cheap point-to-point service.

The majority of the fleet (wet-lease) is operated by Germania (Germania Fluggesellschaft mbH (ST/GMI)).
