Heart 106.2 is an Independent Local Radio station based in London that specializes in "adult contemporary music". The station is particularly well known for its breakfast show presented by Jamie Theakston and Harriet Scott, and its Club Classics programme every Friday and Saturday evening. Other shows include the Time Tunnel, presented by Toby Anstis, and The Late Show, hosted by Simon Beale. The station's programme director is Mark Browning. In addition to FM, the station is available on DAB digital radio in London, and across the UK on Sky Digital satellite, and NTL and Telewest cable. Until April 2006, the station could also be listened to worldwide through its Internet stream. However, according to the website, the station has withdrawn this facility outside the UK due to licencing laws [1]. The first song to be played on Heart 106.2 was Something Got Me Started, by Simply Red.
Jonathan Coleman ("Jono") was axed as host of Heart's breakfast show after decreasing audience figures, possibly due to competition from the rejuvenated breakfast show on rival station 95.8 Capital FM, presented by Johnny Vaughan. Jono moved to Heart's sister station LBC 97.3 FM, and has been replaced on Heart by Jamie Theakston. [2]. Jono's last breakfast show on the 24th March 2005 featured a live congratulatory telephone call from Prime Minister Tony Blair. Jono proved unpopular on LBC and made a move across to BBC London 94.9, although he still receives a mixed reception at his new home.
RAJAR ratings published on 27th October 2005 showed that Heart 106.2 had overtaken 95.8 Capital FM as the most popular commercial radio station in London by both number of listeners and audience share for the first time in Capital FM's 32 year history.
Heart 106.2 are renowned for their repetitive playlist during weekly programming, 2 songs of the same artist can be heard within 100 minute intervals as well as the same mix of songs being used over again during their themed shows, the time-tunnel and club classics.
The station rebranded in September 2006, new dry and sung jingles state only "This is Heart" instead of London's Heart 106.2 as it was before.
On the 26th October 2006, Heart regained the top spot in London from Magic 105.4 in terms of reach and share, from RAJAR's Q3 listening figures of 2006.
