Heptatonic scale

In music, a heptatonic scale is any scale with seven (hepta) degrees. In Western music, the most important examples are the diatonic scales, which include the major and 'natural minor' scales, the harmonic minor scale and the melodic minor.
Other heptatonic scales can be found in other forms of music, such as Hindustani classical music, although use of the term "scale" outside the field of Western functional harmony is controversial.
