[edit] History

The town of Hofors expanded around an iron industry in the 17th century, which eventually developed into one of Sweden's foremost ironworks, and a subsidiary of the SKF concern.

The municipality was formed in 1925, with its current borders from the 1970s. The coat of arms stem from 1968, and is derived from a map from 1539, where the town Hofors was surrounded by iron mines. ([1]).
