Huang is the transliteration of the Chinese surname (Simplified Chinese: 黄; Traditional Chinese: 黃; pinyin: Huáng), which also has the literal meaning yellow. It is transliterated to Wong, Vong, Bong, Ng, Wee, Oi, Oei or Ooi, Ong or Hwang due to dialect-language variations. The surname is known as Hoàng or as Huỳnh in Vietnamese, and Hwang, Whang in Korean.

Huang is the 7^th most common surname in China. The population of Huangs in China (including Taiwan) was estimated at more than 29 million in 2000; it was also the surname of more than 2 million overseas Chinese, many Vietnamese (no data available), and an estimated 1 million Koreans (The 2000 census of South Korea revealed it was the surname for 644,294 South Koreans, ranked 17th)<ref>http://www.geocities.com/bx_huang/Huang_origin.html Retrieved 2005-12-15</ref>.
