Incontinence ("lit. a want of continence or self-restraint") is often used by philosophers to translate the Greek term Akrasia
Incontinence refers to the lack of voluntary control of excretory functions; in fact, the term is a contraction of the complete expression (e.g., "incontinence of urine", "incontinence of feces").
Continence refers to the control of excretory functions, specifically male ejaculations. This was sometimes used a form of birth control (An example would be the Oneida Community, which practiced Free Love and this form of birth control).
