Image:International Badminton Federation member nations.PNG The International Badminton Federation (IBF) is the international governing body for the sport of badminton. Founded in 1934 with nine member nations (Canada, Denmark, England, France, Ireland, Netherlands, New Zealand, Scotland and Wales), the IBF has since expanded to achieve international recognition. On September 24, 2006, at the Extraordinary General Meeting in Madrid, it was decided to adopt the new name Badminton World Federation (BWF). While the name change is official, it has not yet been fully implemented in practical terms.
The IBF works in cooperation with regional governing bodies, which are the Asian Badminton Confederation, European Badminton Union, Oceania Badminton Confederation, Pan American Badminton Confederation and Africa Badminton Federation, to promote and develop the sport of badminton around the world.
Its head office has been located in Cheltenham, UK since its founding, but on October 1, 2005, it is now located in Kuala Lumpur.
