Intervention

  • Art intervention, an interaction with a previously existing artwork, audience or venue/space.
  • an act by which a third person, to protect his own interest, interposes and becomes a party to a suit pending between other parties. There are legal, financial, political, military interventions.
  • A nation's insertion of military or diplomatic pressure upon another nation or elements within it in order to resolve or minimize a human rights crisis.
  • A nation's provision of military support to one side of an internal conflict within another nation.
It is the inverse of Custodian Capture and it occurs when a player has placed his piece in between two of the opponent's piece (such that they are on opposite sides of the players piece). In this form of capture both of the opponents pieces are taken.
This mode of capture is unusual and occurs only in a few games such as Mak-yek.
  • In Organizational Development (OD), another sense of the word intervention is the activity of the OD consultant within the client's context. In a formal OD process, an OD consultant gains entry to the organization, establishes a contract with the client, diagnoses the current functioning of the system, and recommends specific actions to improve things.
  • In education, the point at which a student has struggled such that the teacher must assist the student individually, usually with one-on-one tutoring.
