Ismail Omar Guelleh

Ismaïl Omar Guelleh (Arabic: اسماعيل عُمر جليه) (born November 27, 1947) is the second president of Djibouti. He succeeded his uncle, Hassan Gouled Aptidon, in 1999.
Guelleh won the presidential election of April 1999 with 74% of the vote and took office in May.<ref>Elections in Djibouti, African Elections Database.</ref>
In December 2000 he sacked the chief of staff of the National Police Force, Yacin Yabeh, who shortly afterward unsuccessfully attempted a coup.<ref>"Witnesses describe “coup attempt”", IRIN, December 8, 2000.</ref>
