The Israel Central Bureau of Statistics (הלשכה המרכזית לסטטיסטיקה), often abbreviated to CBS, is the Israeli government bureau commissioned with producing statistics to help better understand Israel. Its primary function is to perform, and publish the results of statistical acts as to the population and its social, health, economic, commercial, industrial and other activities and as to the physical conditions of the country.[1]
It is headed by a Government Statistician, who is appointed on the recommendation of the Prime Minister.
The bureau is funded by the Israeli government, although about 30% of its revenue comes from private organizations requesting statistics not otherwise issued by the CBS.[citation needed]
