- In 2001: A Space Odyssey, the fictional computer HAL becomes operational on January 12. In the movie by Stanley Kubrick, HAL was "born" in 1992, while in the book by Arthur C. Clarke the same event occurs in 1997.

- The X Files episode 3x13 (Syzygy) - A rare planetary alignment causes strange behavior in the residents of a small town but particularly in two teenage girls who were born at the exact same moment on that particular date. The girls birthdays were on January 12, 1979 and the timestamp on the episode was January 12, 1996.
