Japonic languages

The Japanese-Ryukyuan languages, misleadingly called by some scholars the 'Japonic languages',[citation needed] constitute a language family that is agreed to have descended from a common ancestral language known as Proto-Japanese-Ryukyuan (or 'Proto-Japonic').[citation needed]
