Jay Lane has also currently started with a new group by the name of Band Of Brotherz. Go to www.myspace.com/thebandofbrotherz to check it out. The Band of Brotherz is comprised of four of the original members of San Francisco phenomena by the name of Alphabet Soup which was very prominent throughout the mid 90’s. These members consist of Jay Lane (Primus, Frog Brigade, Bob Weir’s Ratdog, and Charlie Hunter Trio) on drums and Zachariah Mose, Mic Blake, Chris Burger for vocals. The band was later joined by prominent Berkley/Oakland lyricist Kinpin Rowe. They have since changed their style and have gotten away from the “jam band” style to a more evolved, and composed signature style. Their sound is best described as Multi Cultural Urban hip hop. This style is created by layered sequenced digital tracks as well as live instrumentation.
There are many guests musicians that appear throughout their new album which will be released in early spring. These special guests consist of Dave Shul ( Spearhead), guitar, Gabby La La ( Les Claypool) sitar, Jeff Chimenti (Ratdog) keys, Kenny Brooks (Ratdog) sax, and Sikiru Adepoju, (Mickey Hart’s Planet Drum) master of the talking drum.
