</div></div> Jean-Pierre Dumont (born April 1, 1978 in Montreal, Quebec) is a Canadian professional ice hockey forward who plays in the National Hockey League (NHL). JP, as he is usually referred to, was drafted third overall the 1996 NHL Entry Draft by the New York Islanders. A contract dispute between the two sides saw the Islanders trade him to the Chicago Blackhawks in 1998. In 2000, he was traded to the Buffalo Sabres, along with Doug Gilmour, in exchange for Michal Grosek.
Dumont played excellently during the Sabres' run in the 2006 playoffs, including scoring an overtime goal in Game 3 second round series versus the Ottawa Senators.
In August of 2006, Dumont signed a two year, US$4.5 million contract with the Nashville Predators, after the Buffalo Sabres rejected Dumont's US$2.9 million arbitration award.
